HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head women's water polo coach Michel Roy announced the signing of Monique Wilson of Costa Mesa, Calif., to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Rainbow Wahine in the spring of 2010.
“We are very proud and happy to have our first top 20 USA player since I have been here,” Roy said. “Monique Wilson in on the Junior USA National Team Program and hopefully some other U.S. athletes will follow her in the future.”
Wilson is a 5-foot-7 defender and utility from Edison High School in Huntington Beach, Calif. She has been a starter and key player on her high school varsity team since her freshman year.
Wilson led the league in scoring while just a sophomore with 68 goals and was co-captain during her junior year and named to second-team all-Southern California. Additionally, Wilson was a member of the 2008 U.S. Junior National Training Team and 2007 Cadet National Team.
